History

Company N-1 is the oldest original Navy/Marine outfit in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Its record begins with the 1972 introduction of Naval ROTC at Texas A&M and continues through the modern Knights era.

Bloody Cross

N-1 built a strong reputation in Bloody Cross, including six consecutive first-place finishes from 1981 through 1986 and continued high performance in later years.

Aggie Tradition

Bonfire

N-1 cadets held key Bonfire leadership roles through the 1980s, including Red Pots, Brown Pots, Butt Pots, and Piss Pots.

Drill Legacy

Fish Drill Team

N-1 has long been connected to Fish Drill Team, with cadets serving in selective leadership roles and carrying forward a culture of precision and discipline.

1972

N-1 Established

Company N-1 was established as one of the first two Navy/Marine outfits created when Naval ROTC was introduced at Texas A&M.

1972-1985

The Neanderthals

N-1 operated under the Neanderthals identity and built its early culture around effort, drill, physical toughness, Bonfire participation, and the motto All the Way and Then Some.

1981-1986

Bloody Cross Dominance

Company N-1 earned first place in Bloody Cross for six consecutive years, strengthening its reputation for endurance and unit cohesion.

1987-1991

Return Of N-1

The Neanderthal era returned for a second active period before the outfit was again disbanded after the fall of 1991.

1997

The Knights Era Begins

N-1 was reactivated as the Knights, carrying forward the outfit record under the motto First in Sight, Ready to Fight.

2000-2006

O.R. Simpson Drill Record

N-1 earned repeated first-place finishes in the O.R. Simpson Drill Competition during this period, adding to the company drill legacy.

2012-2014

Commandant's Award Run

N-1 earned the Commandant's Award in 2012, 2013, and 2014, along with other Corps-level awards during the same era.

2019

Most Improved And March-In Excellence

N-1 earned the Taylor A. Gillespie Most Improved Outfit Award and the Pass in Review Award, with additional recognition among top Corps units.

2024

Modern Competitive Standard

The Knights placed second in Bloody Cross and third overall in Cadet Challenge, continuing the company record of physical competition.

Present

The Line Continues

Current cadets preserve the N-1 record through academics, drill, physical fitness, service, and company leadership.
